Dr. Ebrahim was born in Baltimore, Maryland, and grew up in New Orleans. After graduating from Jesuit High School in New Orleans, his studies took him to Washington, DC, where he graduated from the Georgetown University College of Arts and Sciences, and the Georgetown University School of Medicine.
While in Washington, DC, Dr. Ebrahim worked in the laboratory of Nobel Laureate Dr. Carleton Gadjusek at the National Institutes of Health (NIH).
After medical school, Dr. Ebrahim earned the “Intern of the Year” award at St. Joseph Hospital, and then returned to New Orleans to complete a three-year residency in ophthalmology at Tulane University, receiving annual awards for his research.
Following his ophthalmology degree, Dr. Ebrahim went on to earn his retinal surgery degree by completing a two-year vitreo-retinal surgery fellowship with world-renowned vitreo-retinal surgeon and researcher, Dr. Gholam Peyman. Dr. Peyman is the most published vitreo-retinal surgeon in the history of the field, co-creator of the field of vitreo-retinal surgery, and a revered member of the Ophthalmology Hall of Fame. Dr. Ebrahim served as his chief vitreo-retinal surgery fellow.
Dr. Ebrahim is Board Certified by The American Board of Ophthalmology, and a published member of the American Society of Retinal Specialists. He founded The Retina Institute in 2005, with the mission of delivering to his patients the most advanced retinal care available.
Dr. Ebrahim also serves as a Clinical Assistant Professor at the Tulane University School of Medicine, and on the Board of Directors for The Lighthouse for the Blind.
